Amsterdam Collection

The 'Amsterdam Collection' is made from clay found in the Noord/Zuidlijn Metro tunnel. This clay has been found 30 meters under the Ceintuurbaan and is estimated to be 130.000 years old.

How the clay came from the Metrotunnel:

Digging in Amsterdam, one will not only find clay, but also old ceramic artifacts. During excavations on different depths, frying pans, cups, jugs and pipkins were found and have become the inspiration for the 'Amsterdam Collection'.

The limited series from 'Amsterdam Collection' is available till the 100 kilo clay if finished.
The exclusive series is 5-part set earthenware, numbered and signed, in a series of 12.

Next to this series, we also have small cups available.
Not historically inspired, but useful for coffee or tea etc.
See here how they are made.

The Amsterdam clay is very porous. The collection is meant for decoration rather than for practical use.
Which is not impossible, but one has to soal the objects in water first, so they fill themselves with water, which deminishes the change of leaking.
The basin of the oil lamp should be filled with water, with a little layer of lamp oil on top.
The down part of the lamp is also there to catch the humidity that drops down from the higher part...
